The inception of Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalaya was due to the efforts of some likeminded people bearinga determined stride, possessing asolemn passionto offer quality higher education, thefirst of its kind in Gangajalghati confine. The cherished dream of the block to propel the local youths to the undergraduate level came into reality in 1985 with the birth of our collegeaided by these very humanists whose noble mission bore fruits.

Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalaya unbiasedly disseminatesnot only academic knowledgebut imparts the wisdom that can transform the rural youths to ideal citizens of modern India. The lush green pasturesof its campus aid the students to mesh with nature. The starkly rural but simultaneously peaceful fields that surround the college render an ideal scenario for a seat of education.

The University of Burdwan approved a permanent affiliation on 30.08.1988 to ourcollege which thus has been continuously opening doors by changing and shaping high school students.Along with enabling the participation of village students in higher education,energies are directed towards conferringa holistic bent of mind that boostsindependent thinking. The college through courses in both the Science & Arts facultymaintains a standard of education imparted by their brightand capablefaculties.In additionto the regular teaching learning activities,the college endeavours for an overall development of the village students by conducting various extra-curricular activities for them. The college has conducted a good number of extension activities as well to strengthen college neighbourhood network. The college has a well-maintained library.

With a humble beginning on the acquired grounds of Amarkanan Deshbandhu Vidyalaya the college now stands in its own precincts in 1987 amidst greenery and harmony that surround it. Uninterruptedly this college has been pouring out rural students who having completed a basic educational course, eye a certain future armed with the values that were also passed on alongside.

Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalayacarries on gaining strength from its past involvements, novelties and occasions that have comprised these years of its existence. For almost three decades and eight years, we have been entrenched with the belief that education is not only for flowering and blossoming but a definite perception enhancing tool leading to better survival. The uncommon and unparalleled contributions of many a luminary form our backbone compelling us to forge further. We always pay homage to Dr. Maniklal Masanta(Former Principal),Dr. Bimalendu Kundu (Former Principal-in-Charge), Dr. SamirKumar Kar (Former Principal), Dr. Juran Ali Mondal (Former Principal-in-Charge), whose unstinted support havehelped us to strive with long stride.
